Knock Knock.
Who’s there?
South-By.
South-By, who?
SOUTH-BY SOUTHWEST!!
That’s right, kids! It’s that time of year again. Time for the geeks (who we’re told will inherit the earth) to descend on Austin for the greatest tech party that ever was.
WHY, you may ask, is South-By-Southwest so awesome? Because it’s in AUSTIN (we’ll refrain from also saying, “DUH”). Austin is proud to be the home of what’s widely regarded as the creme de la creme of tech conferences and the festival standard against which all others are measured.
SXSW Interactive (or “South By,” for short) is the place where greatness is born.
It’s helped launch the careers of people like Fred Armisen, who launched his comedy careers here in 1998, John Mayer, whose appearance in 2000 led to his first record deal, and Katy Perry, who followed suit in 2007.
It was where the world was first introduced to Twitter (you might have heard of that) and Foursquare (now affectionately known as “Swarm”).
It was the place where “The Hurt Locker,” the 2010 Academy Award winner for Best Picture was premiered (there are about 145 films premiering at SXSW 2015, each of which is hoping to channel that film’s success).
SXSW isn’t just fun for its attendees either. It’s great for all Austinites, too. It’s also a boon to our economy and brings in close to $220 million dollars each year.
South By Southwest is a mega festival that’s broken up into three separate events for Interactive (March 13-17), Film (March 13-21), and Music (March 17-22).
The schedule is downright massive—there’s more to do here than you could shake a stick at. Check out the full lineup here: http://sxsw.com
Over the coming days, we’re gonna give you the full SXSW hookup. You’ll know where to eat, where to drink, and what to do when you’re here (and if you’re can’t be here for the festival, you’ll be prepped for when you are here)!
Join Austin—whether you’re here or someplace else—in celebrating the Mardi Gras for geeks. SXSW: the greatest festival in the history of festivals, and one of the great things that makes Austin, itself, the greatest city on earth.
